Syndicate SD Celebrates the Olympics Day 11 -- Forum Event 4 -- Interesting Olympics Welcome to day 11 of the SSD Olympics. Today is our fourth of five forum events. The athletes of the Olympics have random and interesting experiences that make them who they are. One of my favorite parts of watching the Olympics is learning about the different athletes and the journey they have taken to get to where they are today. For this event, reply to this thread. Share one small random bit of trivia from two different Olympians from two different countries. Also, include one random bit of trivia about yourself, for these past two weeks, you, too, have been an ourWorld Olympian. Medals will be distributed to participants with the most unique facts of trivia and most thoughtful responses. Good luck, SSD! It's going to be fun to learn about you and the athletes. Be sure to include your ourWorld name in the post!

- Usain Bolt (Jamaica), regarded as the fastest person ever timed, wouldn't have gotten into track had his coach not urged him to try it. At a young age, he was more interested in sports like cricket and football.
- Gaurika Singh, a Nepalese swimmer, is the youngest Olympian to participate in the Rio 2016 Olympic games. She finished 31st in the Women's 100m backstroke.
- Not so fun fact about myself: I have absolutely no sense of direction. When I first moved into my current neighborhood, my friend had to walk me home after school everyday for about a week. Mind you that my friend does not live there and was every bit new to the neighborhood as myself.

Yusra Mardina (Swimming) - "Yusra Mardini is the face of the Olympics’ first ever team of refugees." As you may have heard of the recent civil war in Syria, when Yusra was younger (she's only 18 now) her home was bombed and life was very dangerous for her and her family and they decided they needed to flee the country. From her unique swimming abilities, she saved not only her family but about 20 other lives when her and other refugees reached a difficulty in the Mediterranean involving her dinghy being broken.
Lopez Lomong (Track & Field) - South Sudanese-American Lopez Lomong was also caught up in a civil war. He was in a group of more than 20,000 boys of the Nuer and Dinka ethnic groups who were displaced or orphaned during the war, known as the Lost Boys of Sudan. He was abducted at age 6 and almost died in captivity but some friends from his village helped him escape. He sought refuge in the US in 2001 and has since became a citizen.
MY FUN FACT - I've had a bad experience with a lot of the friends I've made in school since many of them had good grades like I did and did well in school and lets just say school can be quite a battlefield. Since others I considered my friends would constantly try to push me down I lost a lot of trust that I had in people and it was very difficult for me to see a positive side of others. Oddly enough, I met someone from one of the strangest places: the internet. Before I didn't believe people couuld get close over the internet; the barriers were just too great. But this person almost changed my perception of the world entirely (HE SO SMART!!!!) and I can say with full confidence that I have someone who is not only the epitome of a best friend and a confidante, but also a brother.
p.s. he is in our clan and his name is l Incubus l

- Scott Hamilton was adopted when he was six weeks old and was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at the age of two. The doctors gave him six months to live, but the disease began to correct itself. He began ice skating during his teenage years, but had to quit because his parents were unable to afford the costs. Later, he was able to get funded through a grant from Helen and Frank McLoraine to continue his training.
- Wilma Rudolph was born prematurely and is the 20th of 22 siblings. She was diagnosed with infantile paralysis from a polio virus at the age of four. She recovered, wore a brace on her left leg and foot until she was nine and then had to wear an orthopedic shoe for two years. During her childhood she also suffered from scarlet fever, whooping cough, chicken pox and the measles.
- Fact: I am the #1 guy on ourworld and I know I'm the best. Oichi is the #1 girl My name is l Incubus l
