The summer Olympics is a very special event, only occurring every 4 years. It not only is important to the athletes that participate in it throughout the world, but also important to the viewers who get to take pride in their nation. Gymnastics was always the event that caught my attention the greatest. I was always in awe at the strength of these individuals that could hold themselves up on rings, bars, etc., while I could hold MYSELF up when doing a push-up! Also an aspect not to overlook in the competitors is their AMAZING flexibility and balance. I couldn't imagine how much training and hard-work their put into this. It's especially inspiring that the female gymnasts could spin more than two times on the balancing beam and maintain their stance while I can't even do it on a flat surface that is the ground. However, recently, another event has started to gain my attention over gymnastics and while it is closely similar to gymnastics, the two vary greatly. Perhaps they are so similar that the word "gymnastics" is included into the title as well. It's known as "rhythm gymnastics". I had never heard of the event before or seen it at all. Perhaps it's not so popular, but the beauty and grace of the individuals who compete in the event is outstanding. I can only look upon the gymnasts with aspiration. As they twirl their ribbons around themselves I can already imagine if I were to stand in their shoes. Let's just say it incorporates some ribbon tangled all over me. And as they throw the hula-hoops into the air and leap through them elegantly, I can already picture myself getting struck in the head with the hoops. For most the viewers watching the Olympics, I can guarantee what they see on their television is something they deem as almost impossible, especially for themselves, but for the athletes competing, they make it seem like just another walk in the park. They certainly are great at defying reality. - oichiwei This is a video

My favourite Olympic sport would have to be volleyball. The objective of volleyball is to have the ball fall on the opposing team’s court, while preventing it from falling on your own court. With those rules, one would assume that it’s a rather simple and easy sport to play, right? Not in the slightest. Volleyball is such an intensive sport that requires the utmost coordination and teamwork. With 6 players on one court, a brilliant display of synergy is required. I find it really amazing that no matter how good a player may be, they alone cannot win. Only by working together as a unit, can a team attain victory. In the Olympics, medals are not given to the best volleyball players, but to the best teams. As an outsider, it’s a really engaging sport to watch, and looks the most pleasant when players respond to each other quickly and fluidly. Although I do not play volleyball, I can truly say that it’s my favourite Olympic sport to watch. - kittee10

Rugby 7s are a new sport in the olympics. The rugby 7s are exciting and fast paced. This will be my most favorite sport to watch in the olympics because of the high intensity and speed as well as the new excitement added to it. As a football player I often don't watch the Olympics because my sport is left out, but now because a similar sport is being included I plan to watch the matches in excitement. This will be the first Olympics that I will actually be watching attentively and all due to the Rugby 7s.

I think my favorite Olympic sport is Couch Surfing ;P I participated in a lot of sports when I was young including basketball, track & field, volleyball, softball, football (American), golf, archery, judo, swimming & diving. In general I find it much more exciting and fun to play sports than it is to watch them. That being said, I think the sport I enjoy watching most is diving. It's a sport that takes bravery and while it looks graceful and easy it is deceptively hard where even a minor mistake can spell disaster.
